Surgery requires a general anaesthetic. Surgery can usually be performed as a day case or
with a single overnight stay in most cases.
Surgery involves reopening your previous incision and removal of the implant with the
surrounding capsule. In many cases a breast lift (mastopexy) is required to reduce the skin
and breast envelope after the implant has been removed. In larger breasts this is required to
prevent leaving an ‘empty bag’ that has a poor functional and cosmetic effect.
